Linked in a a great tool for white collar professionals to network purely on a professional basis; given that it is very oriented (in its features) to professional networking, it keeps out all and sundry. It allows you to post your information in a resume format thereby allowing placement firms and recruiters search for people like you. You also end up keeping in touch with people you meet infrequently and fosters re-connecting. Your email address is kept confdential so you don’t get spammed needlessly.
I’ve had a number of people interested in my professional experience contact me thru Linked in.
