LinkedIn Mini Sudoku #272: Pro-Tips Breakdown

LinkedIn Mini Sudoku #272 is a classic 6x6 grid where every row, column, and 2x3 box must contain 1–6 exactly once. You’re given:

  • Row 1: _, _, 5, _, _, _
  • Row 2: _, 3, 4, _, _, _
  • Row 3: 1, 2, _, _, 5, _
  • Row 4: _, _, _, 3, 1, _
  • Row 5: _, _, 2, 4, _, _
  • Row 6: _, _, _, _, _, _
We’re focusing on the strategy, not cell-by-cell transcription.

Early Cross-Hatching Wins

Cross-hatching means looking at a number and checking which rows and columns block it from entering a box. On this 6x6, that’s especially powerful.

Start with the 3 and 4 already in row 2: 3,4 in columns 2 and 3. That pins 3 and 4 in their 2x3 box, which helps you deduce where 1, 2, 5, and 6 can go in that box.

Similarly, in row 3, you have 1,2 fixed in columns 1 and 2. That box now has three known numbers, so 3, 5, and 6 must fill the remaining three cells. The known 5 elsewhere on row 3 forces 5 into the far-right column of that box, leaving 3 and 6 to be split between the two middle cells. This is classic 6x6 box-block deduction.

Row 4 and 5 give you another anchor: 3 and 4 in column 4, and 2 and 4 in column 3. The column-based cross-hatch from 3, 4, and 2 quickly narrows possibilities in the middle-bottom boxes.

Hidden Singles and the Crucial Square

A Hidden Single is a cell where only one number can fit, even though it isn’t immediately obvious from naked pencil marks. In LinkedIn Mini Sudoku #272, the key pivot is the top-right box (rows 1–2, columns 4–6).

By the time you’ve filled in the obvious 1s, 2s, 3s, and 4s using cross-hatching, many candidates in that box are whittled down. The box needs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, but 3, 4, and 5 are already constrained by rows 1 and 2.

The Crucial Square is the cell in row 1, column 6. By elimination from row 1 and column 6, plus the box constraints, only one number survives as a candidate there. Once you place that number, it creates a domino effect: the remaining 1, 2, and 6 in that box fall into place, and the top-right box is fully resolved.

After that, the top row and column 6 become far easier to finish with straightforward cross-hatching.

Difficult Row: Row 6

Row 6 is the Difficult Row in LinkedIn Mini Sudoku #272. It starts completely empty, and the surrounding 6x6 geometry forces tight interactions between columns 1–3 and 4–6.

The key trick is to look at the middle-left box (rows 4–5, columns 1–3). You already have 3 in column 4 and 4 in column 4, plus 2 in column 3. That forces 1, 5, and 6 into the remaining cells of that box. Combine that with column constraints from rows 1–5, and you’ll find a Hidden Single in row 6, column 2.

Placing that number unlocks the left half of row 6. Then, work clockwise: use the now-filled row 6 to knock out candidates in the bottom-right box, and suddenly 1, 2, 5, and 6 fall into place with straightforward cross-hatch eliminations.

Speed-Run Mindset

To speed-run LinkedIn Mini Sudoku #272:

  • Start with cross-hatching for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 in the upper-middle 2x3 box (rows 1–2, columns 1–3), then move to the middle-right box (rows 3–4, columns 4–6).
  • Use the Crucial Square at row 1, column 6 to lock the top-right box.
  • Shift focus to the middle-left box and use Hidden Singles to crack row 6, column 2.
  • With row 6 and the top-right box solved, the rest of the grid resolves in under 30 seconds with pure cross-hatching.

Mini Sudoku #272 rewards you for spotting the top-right box and the middle-left box early. Once those two boxes start falling, the entire 6x6 grid unwinds like a spring.
